Nasi lemak
Nasi Lemak cooked rice is found everywhere in Malaysia, from simple eateries on small streets to luxury restaurants. Thanks to its appetizing taste and eye-catching presentation, it is considered a symbolic dish of Malaysia. The recipe is simple. Rice is cooked with coconut water. This rice is often served with soy beans fried with salt, dried fish, dried venison and chilly sauce. Sometimes chicken, beef, seafood or mutton curry is also used. Cucumber and boiled egg help complete the dish.
Roti Canai
Roti Canai originates from India and is served as a traditional Malaysian breakfast food. The recipe is quick and easy, therefore it is perfect for breakfast. Made from flour and dry-fried, it is tasty but not fatty. A piece of Roti Canai cake dipped in hot curry sauce together with a cup of milk tea is a good start for a hard working day.
Pan Mee
Pan Mee is basically fresh noodle; however, Malaysian seasoning gives it a special and unique taste. Seasonings include minced pork, fried garlic, egg and onion. Chilli sauce is indispensable to make it one of the best Malaysian foods. Some of the best Pan Mee is that found at Super Kitchen restaurant in Kuala Lumpur.
Satay – grilled meat on a stick
Meat used for this treat can be pork, chicken or beef. After being thoroughly seasoned, all pieces are put onto a stick and then grilled over a burning coal fire. The taste is so appetizing and the flavour is hard to resist. It is best served with sweet soya sauce which melts slowly on your tongue.
Baked ray fish
This type of fish may cause you trouble if it is seen swimming in the water near you. However, a skilful Malaysian recipe turns it into a special dish, thanks to traditional baking skill. The original taste of fresh ray fish is retained after being baked at high temperature, because it is well seasoned and fully covered in a banana leaf. It is often served with a thick marinade sauce.
Char Kway Teow
Char kway teow, in fact, is mixed noodle. Rice noodle is combined with meat and seafood, and mixed with black soya sauce. An egg is added to each plate of char kway teow to make it more tasty.
Laksa Cari noodle
This type of noodle is used domestically in family meals. The main ingredients include coconut water, curry, and chicken or shrimp. Extra taste is added with fried tofu, fresh lemon and sambal chilli.
